Postmodernism and Music

Dan Black- Symphonies
Dj Shadow - Organ Donnor
Daft punk- Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

Participation
Daft Punk - Using a website called dothedaft.com we can recreate the song, making our own original copy.

Modification
Dj Shadow - Uses lots of bits of music and re arranges them in a new order which therefore is modification, his album endtroducing was the first of its kind made entirely of other music reordered.

Authenticity Disrupted
Dan Black - Makes it obvious that his song Symphonies is copied from various other songs, he also illustrates this in his video.

As I am not your teacher I cannot comment fully on your ability but I would say that this falls well below the standard to which you should aspire.

At the minute you are far too passive and consequently fail to fully engage with either the texts or tasks. Whether this stems from confidence or apathy I cannot confidently say but the fact you wish to undertake extra study indicates that apathy is the least likely prognosis.

I hope what follows is not too rude (that is certainly not my intention) but you need to think less about whether I dislike you or not but rather whether you can impress me with your hard work (to put your mind at ease I don't dislike anyone, nor have I have I ever dislike anyone). I would love for you to be wrong about something, not because I take pleasure from your misfortune but because then I can actually help you improve. At the minute I feel that I am of no use to you at all because I have no idea what you do or do not know due to the fact you are so reluctant to speak about the topic.

In order to improve you must demonstrate an understanding of WHY the texts we have studied are constructed in the way they are. Why do Daft Punk want us to interact with their music? Why does Dan Black go to such great lengths to make us aware of intertextual references? At the minute your responses lack personal engagement with the texts.

Once again I cannot emphasise enough that my intention has not been to be rude towards you, it is simply to ensure that you leave college with the best grades possible. If you and Jack would like additional lessons to catch up on what you missed then I can assist. I would also recommend that you improve your kick ass essay, rather than wear your mediocrity as a badge of honour, strive to improve.
